La Serena Golf

La Serena Golf is located in the municipality of Los Alcázares, occupying an area of 60 hectares on the very edge of the Mar Menor. It is an eminently flat course, where the greatest difficulties for the game will be determined by the prevailing easterly wind and the multiple water hazards that come into play in 16 of the 18 holes.

The course, with a traditional structure, is not particularly long, although precision off the tee becomes a fundamental piece that the player must master in order to find the way to the green among a multitude of bunkers, desert areas and the aforementioned water hazards.

The designer, Manuel Piñero, born in Badajoz in 1952, grew up as a golf professional at the Villa de Madrid Country Club. He joined the European Tour in 1972, where he competed until 2002, achieving 9 wins and being a member of the European Ryder Cup team twice. He won the World Cup in 1974 and later in 1982 forming a couple with Seve Ballesteros and José Maria Cañizares respectively.

In 2003 he joined the European Senior Circuit, where he continues to compete today. His national record is also impressive, winning the Spanish Professional Championship on 5 occasions and the Doubles Championship on another 5. Known and feared by other players for his spectacular command of the short game, Manuel Piñero currently resides on the Costa of the sun.

The golf club has a large Social Club with all the facilities and services: The ground floor houses the changing rooms, pro-shop, the caddy master's office and a club room available to members and customers in general. On the first floor are the cafeteria, the à la carte restaurant "La Serena" and a large terrace with unparalleled views of the Mar Menor and the golf course.
