The first golf course on the Costa Brava
Located in the middle of the Arenals de Mar estate, on some dunes covered by an immense pine forest planted seventy years ago, Golf Platja de Pals was designed in the early 1960s by Baltasar Parera Vilar and his wife, Rosa Coll Llach, who contributed all the necessary land, as well as the construction of the first nine holes, the headquarters and all the initial machinery for its maintenance.
Although the magazine Destino, in the February 1961 issue, published the first sketches of the future golf course, the works did not begin until 1964, under the project and direction of the English architect Fred Hawtree, who acted in perfect harmony from the beginning with the wishes of the Parera-Coll family. The promoters respected nature to the maximum, to the point that they did not allow the felling of a single pine on the farm that had not previously been personally marked.
Thus, during the summer of 1966 the first nine holes of the first golf course on the Costa Brava were inaugurated, and shortly after, in 1968, the extension began with nine more holes until reaching the eighteen regulation holes, which were inaugurated in 1970. , with the celebration of the International Amateur Championship of Spain. Two years later, Golf Platja de Pals hosted the 1972 Spanish Open.
Since then, it has been considered one of the best golf courses in Spain, thanks to its careful design and construction, and has also hosted numerous international competitions.
